28 Dec 21Brian Roche"I am just letting you know that my Hematologist has told me that I have a very serious medical condition.
It is unknown at this stage although I have had a few tests with obviously a few more to come.
He even thinks that it may be a Tumor somewhere although that is not a top consideration at this stage.
I have absolutely no energy and just want to lie down for most of the day".

13 Jul 21Paul LidsterBaillie Henderson Hospital in Toowoomba For those who are not aware Paul Lidster is in the General Rehab Section at the Baillie Henderson Hospital in Toowoomba recovering from a hip surgery and a mild heart attack.

Contact phone for the Baillie Henderson Section is 07 4699 7086. Ask to speak with Paul and the nurse will check to see if he is available (not undergoing physio etc) and take the phone to him.

Going back to early May of this year Paul was discovered lying on the ground early in the morning in front of his garage at Oakey. It turns out that he had been lying on the ground throughout most of the night. Temperatures at night in Oakey at that time were between minus one and minus two.

How he survived the night outside at Oakey is rather amazing. Fortunately he was in a position where someone saw him early in the morning. He was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital where he was assessed for prolong heart issues and underwent surgery for his broken hip.

13 Apr 20Frank BenfieldCurrently homeDear Friends.
For a week or more, I’ve been wanting to craft this story of my recent journey into poor health of the brain cancer kind. Hopefully it won’t be too detailed for you readers. It is something of a chronology and I’ll begin on 08 February 2020 at Mooloolaba Beach public toilet when at about 9.00am I experienced a serious seizure of unknown origin before passing out in the dunny. I was recovered by the Life Savers and Clare and then the paramedics who took me off for admission to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH) which is quite close to our house. That admission led to a comprehensive range of blood tests, scans and analyses. ON 27 February 2020 an MRI at Nambour hospital provided a confirmed diagnosis of the large aggressive, inoperable brain tumour that had taken up residence in the back of my skull and we were told was resistant to treatment. The prognosis is grim, I’m sorry to say. Subsequent surgical biopsy confirmed all of those adjectives and fin

05 Apr 20Frank BenfieldHomePlease find more updates on Frank from Digger Davies and Frank him self as at last night 4 April.
I spoke to Frank this afternoon and he is home after the biopsy.
He sounded in good spirits and said they were waiting for the oncologists from Sunshine Coast hospital and RBH to plan a course of treatment.
Frank and Clare went for a slow and careful walk to the beach this morning and had their compulsory coffee. Can’t keep a good man down.
I believe he has to wait a while for the biopsy operation to clear before any treatment can commence.
He was saying if he has to have either Radium or Chemotherapy the Sunshine Coast Hospital is not far away from their home.
I know it’s not much news but I shall keep you all informed as soon as I am told anything.

17 Aug 19Phillip BondWe received the following regarding the health of Phillip Bond.
Hi,
I have been unable to attend the RAQ monthly meetings as I have had health problems for the last 3-4 months, I am presently back home after spending 14 days in hospital and am laid up for another 6 weeks with a spacer replacement in my right leg with no knee. After the 6 weeks I’ll be going back into surgery to remove the spacer and fit a newer prosthetic knee so the situation is I’ll be of the radar till November/ December.

14 Apr 19Dave (Macca) MacDonaldAt HomeOnThursday 4 April 19 David MacDonald (Macca) was rushed to emergency at Wesley Private Hospital having a major heart attack.
He thought he’d been suffering heartburn for 4 days.
The Cardiologist was shaking his head in disbelief of his survival after installing 5 stents.
We are all so truly blessed to still have you with us today

We were also forced to take on another challenge with the discovery of Bowel Cancer.
It’s unfortunate, but thankfully found with all the diligence of the medical teams at Wesley PH
The pending operations will sadly be a slower process due to your heart attack recovery but Trust me, we WILL overcome this obstacle too.

I phoned Macca today and he is in good spirit, I plan to visit him in the next week or so, will keep you updated.

23 Oct 18Peter LarardHave received the following from Frank Benfield
Below is the message from Peter's Daughter Kerri

First, Peter Larard is gravely unwell with Alzheimer’s disease according to an email from his eldest daughter Kerri. Peter’s situation has declined rapidly over the last month. He struggles to speak, is unable to walk, sit, stand or move about without the assistance of two carers. He struggles to eat due to swallowing difficulties and needs help with toileting and personal hygiene. He has a life expectancy of 6 months and may not see Christmas. Kerri closed her email with the following poignant comments

“I guess we have the next few months to say goodbye.
This could be his last Christmas, I remember having that same thought about Mum.
He doesn't deserve it, but no one really does. Will keep you posted.
Love. Kerri.”

16 May 16Ron PerryGold Coast private
emails of support for Ron can be sent to Meg. This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Ron had a nasty fall when I was with him at the Arcare Coffee Shop on Monday. He was taken in the ambulance to the new Gold Coast Private (previously Allamanda).
He has a pelvic and pubis rami fracture (which is the worst one). He is battered and bruised and I am surprised he didn't break every bone in his body. He's had osteoporosis for years.
He is confined to bed and is not supposed to put weight on the leg as it will aggravate the fracture.
Because of his advanced dementia, he does not understand and continues to move causing excruciating pain.
He is on morphine which will continue until he improves (??) or needs palliative care. The Doctor is saying that if he can control the pain, Ron may have to go back to the Nursing Home with a morphine patch.

Jim Hislop
